oStorybook oStorybook has 4 main views::
- Chronological view: shows the scenes by date. Each story line has its own column.
- Manage view: shows the chapters and scenes attached to them. Scenes can be moved and renumbered by dragging and dropping.
- Book view: shows the chapters and scenes sorted by chapter number and scene number, as they will appear in the final book.
oStorybook helps you keep an overview, which is invaluable for complex stories with several narrative strands. It's a bit like mind mapping.
- Adjustable view: the size of each view, also known as a display panel, can be adjusted. You can even toggle it to full screen, or hide unnecessary views. All you have to do is click.
- Strands: each scene is linked to a primary strand (a frame). Optionally, other secondary strands can be linked to a scene.
- Characters: add, modify or delete characters and link them to the scene. A character's gender can be male or female, but you can create new genders (animals, for example).
- Locations: add, modify or delete locations and link them to the scene.
- Tags and Objects: tags and objects can be attached to a scene, a place or a character. The time frame can be defined by dating the start and end scenes. A table shows the list of all linked elements.
- Chapters: define your chapters and link your scenes.
- Parts: large projects can be broken down into several parts.
- Tree: a hierarchical presentation showing characters, locations, tags, objects as well as chapters and their scenes. Below the tree, the main information about the selected item is displayed. Missing or duplicate scenes are indicated.
- Global Ideas: most authors have ideas that come to them out of the blue. No need for post-its! With the ‘Global ideas’ function, you can save your ideas at any time and indicate whether they are ‘Not started’, ‘Started’, ‘Finished’ or ‘Abandoned’.
- Navigation: you can navigate through your elements in different ways.
- Spelling: the spelling of your text can be checked with a customisable dictionary. There's also a tool for finding synonyms and antonyms.
